All Day

Levenshulme Market, Levenshulme Inspire and Klondyke Club

Manchester’s first Language Day took place in Levenshulme on Saturday 24th October 2015. The event was a celebration of linguistic and cultural diversity in the city, and was attended by hundreds of local residents and visitors, who took part in activities spanning three venues.

Levenshulme Language Day was organised by the Multilingual Manchester team, in collaboration with Manchester City Council, Levenshulme Market, Levenshulme Inspire and local schools.

Visitors had the chance to explore the work of local supplementary schools, watch dances and cultural performances, listen to multilingual music, and try some international food! Interactive language games were enjoyed by children and adults alike, and a Bilingual Café gave parents of multilingual children an opportunity to share experience and pose questions to Speech and Language Therapists.

Language skills were celebrated and shared through a series of language taster sessions, delivered by community organisations, supplementary schools and Multilingual Manchester student volunteers: British Sign Language, Arabic, Mandarin, Polish, Latvian, Tamil and German were among the many languages on offer.

The Multilingual Manchester team were delighted to work with a range of enthusiastic organisations and individuals who made Levenshulme Language Day a success!
