Member of the German Bundestag Johann Saathoff (SPD, Norden in East Frisia) held a speech at the German parliament on 2 March denouncing a motion by the right-wing Alternative for Germany party to amend the constitution to make German the only national language. Saathoff, who is a native speaker of the regional minority language Plattütsch or Low German, code-switched between his two languages during his speech, making parliamentary history in Germany.
