The Lord Mayor of Manchester, Councillor Carl Austin-Behan, and Greater Manchester Interim Mayor and Police and Crime Commissioner Tony Lloyd visited The University of Manchester on 17th June 2016 to celebrate the success of English conversation sessions led by Multilingual Manchester student volunteers.
Tony Lloyd awarded certificates to the participants – many of whom are refugees and asylum seekers – and praised the student volunteers for their commitment to making a difference in the local community.
He said: “It is fantastic to see young people contributing to the valuable work of community organisations such as The Chrysalis Family Centre. Manchester is proud of its rich diversity and has always welcomed people from all backgrounds who seek to build a new life here. Our student community can play an important role in helping people feel at home here, contributing to stronger, safer, more cohesive communities.”
