On 20-22nd February 2019, the Multilingual Manchester team was delighted to host a three-day conference on ‘University Public Engagement with Urban Multilingualism’.
Delegates shared introductions to their public engagement work based in 7 countries (and 12 different cities) around the world, and came together with practitioners working in Manchester, in local government, police, and the healthcare, education and charity sectors. On Thursday 21st February, the group also visited neighbourhood libraries across Manchester to join the celebrations for International Mother Language Day. You can view the full conference programme here.
The programme was shaped around the idea of a ‘conversational conference’; guests formed panels to share their contributions, followed by extended periods of open discussion, which allowed for a wonderful exchange of thoughts, practices and ideas for collaboration.
We look forward to continuing the discussions and send our thanks to all delegates and practitioners for their contributions!
