Reports

More than 150 different languages are spoken in Manchester. They are present in our neighbourhoods, in our schools, in official information of local authorities, in businesses and media, and of course in the privacy of families belonging to one of many dozen minority communities in the city and its surroundings. Select one of the topics to see a list of available reports, which you can then download.

This site provides an archive of short reports and descriptions of the use of various languages in everyday life in and around Manchester. The reports were written by undergraduate and postgraduate students and they rely on data collected through interviews, first-hand observations and access to public data sources. Interpretations of the data reflect the views of the authors. If you wish to comment on the contents of the reports please write to us at mlm@manchester.ac.uk
